Stock sale impro by Lowdjo
The digital world has slowly been killing the record industry, while almost everybody has started downloading the last few years, including me, record sales went down in every musical genre.. so far i thought the more specialised scenes like the dj-world would always keep buying vinyl but i notice that even a lot of my 'active' friends in the dj world switched to digital. By this i mean ordering their 'dj-tools' in high-quality-digital-form, next to downloading unreleased tracks to use in their sets. By doing this, small and even big businesses get bankrupt and can't supply people like me with excellent, fresh and avantgardistic music..On the other hand, the technological evolution created amazing machines that allows us, dj's, to use the digital formats like old and dusty Elvis Presley records and try to create the same atmosphere, only with endless possibilities and effects to manipulate the original sound.
This summer i went to a couple of stock sales in the 'record biz' of record stores that closed their doors and one big distributor in Belgium, Lowlands (article in dutch). Next to this big distributor their was my favourite record store in Brussels and definitely the most interesting one in Belgium, called Le Bonheur - "Epicerie Audiovisuelle". Unfortunately i won't be able to shop there anymore and supply you listeners with excerpts from this recordshop.. thankfully there's still something like mailorder!
So i got my hands on something like a 100 mint condition vinyls in different formats for half or less the original price and recorded this mix after listening once to each record.. here's a 80 minute-impro-recording of a couple of hours of listening pleasure, enjoy!

Theme To "Welcome Back America"
Dear World, we're back. America is back! And it never felt so good. Thank you for being patient with us. The truth is we've been waiting longer than 8 years for this. We've been waiting our whole lives.
America is a culturally diverse place -- our communities are deep and our voices are many. The movement that elected Barack Obama as our next president is about emerging from dark times to take back our country. It's about declaring peace as a virtue. It's about curbing financial greed and putting a little more responsibility and accountability on our citizens. It's about building a future for our children through education, health, conservation, and all the other liberties we've been missing out on. Most importantly, World, it's about renewing our citizenship on planet earth.
Words can't express the state of euphoria we're in over this! It kinda feels like the first time you get laid; your legs are shaky and you have a permanent smile on your face all day. To help you "feel" me, I put together this mix, special for you.
Yours, DJ Bylamplight

Hot Texas Vol. 1
Ah, yes, summer has come and gone and fall is in effect here in Chicago. I spent a little time in Texas this summer and of course made sure to dig for records while I was there. It's damn hot in Texas. And if you don't know, Texas — because of its proximity to the Gulf states — is one of the prime spots for finding 60s Funk and Soul (Houston for one had a lively Funk scene). Texas also had a few Garage scenes here and there, as did most places in the US during the 60s.
More importantly, Austin TX is home to some serious diggers who travel all over the US in search of records for their shops. Spots like Breakaway Records and Friends of Sound are just a few places I got lost in for hours, barely making a dent in the stacks. I also dug around San Antonio's Alamo Records and found a few bits and pieces. I'll upload some pics later on.
Here is the first compilation of heavy Garage and Rockabilly 45s I mostly found in TX. It's in a theme similar to the Turn On Your Lamplight boxset and even features a few TX locals: Roy Head and The Five Americans (maybe others?).
This is just the first of several Hot Texas compilations. The other ones will get more into the Funk and Soul so stay tuned. Track listing:
Move On Down -- Renaissance
Fortune Teller -- The Del-Rays
Rhythm & Greens -- The Shadows
Jump, Jive and Harmonize -- Thee Midniters (check out more reissues from Norton Records)
Thee Midnite Feeling -- Thee Midniters
Sweet Bacon -- Julian Covey and the Machine
A Little Bit Hurt -- Julian Covey and the Machine
Gonna Have A Good Time -- The Easybeats
Time Won't Let Me -- The Outsiders
Come Fill Your Cup -- Springwell
Like I Do -- The Del-Rays
No Communication -- The Five Americans
Death of an Angel -- The Kingsmen
Baby, Please Don't Go -- Them
Get Back -- Roy Head
Treat Her Right -- Roy Head & The Traits
Ramrod -- Duane Eddy His "Twangy" Guitar and the Rebels
Wing Ding -- Joey Dee & The Starlighters
The Green Mosquito -- The Tune Rockers
Rebel - 'Rouser -- Duane Eddy and His "Twangy" Guitar
Rotation -- Rotation
Amen -- Renaissance
The Walker -- Duane Eddy His "Twangy" Guitar and the Rebels
grab it!

Harry Poppins..
Hello all, We've got a new contributor on the blog called Harry Poppins, horray!!!
To celebrate our new member we're posting something old and something new.
The first recording dates back to march 2007 when Lowdjo & Harry Poppins went back2back to close the party at the Planet µ-nite on the Biouel Boat in Brussels where they replaced Luke Vibert, who cancelled. It's a live-recorded-mix that was streamed in real time on Radio Campus for them couch-potatoes.
The mix features a lot of records that were released on the Planet µ-label during the last couple of years, of course some dubstep since that was the theme of the night, some favela elektro and some crazy scratching... unfortunately there's no recording of the people shouting, every time we dropped a killer. You'll just have to imagine those background-noises while listening...
Other artists performing next to Harry & Low that night, were: Vex'd, Boxcutter, Loefah and Distance...
There were some technical difficulties in the beginning of this set but that won't spoil the fun!
Download Harry Poppins & Lowdjo's set on the Planet µ-nite in Brussels (divshare - 108mb)
The second post dates back to august 2008 when Harry & Low were fooling around with some tracks that will be released in the near future on Harry Poppins' own Umbrelladelika-label, these tracks haven't been mastered in the studio yet so if you would like these in higher quality you'll just have to order this compilation!Next to Umbrelladelika-tracks, there's some electronix mashed into the mix..
